As we approach Thanksgiving, I thought it would be appropriate to share some of what we are thankful for. First on the list is all of you; our friends and family who have supported us on what Mary calls our journey. The fact that the journey continues is a testament to that support and the power of prayer.

The house has been quit lately with both girls away. Don’t get me wrong, it is blessing that they are both active in their chosen careers. We hear from them often, and the news if primarily good. Becca doesn’t have much time off, so will spend Thanksgiving in Texas with my folks and my sister. Sarah being closer has dropped in a few times and will be joining us this week. If all goes well we drop in on Mary’s mom for a day or two.

It is the definition of well that eludes us and it changes with each passing day. The liver numbers, checked in blood samples, are holding their own (close to normal.) A recent scan (MRI this time) does not show much change from an earlier scan this summer. As I described in my last email, she remains puffy; perhaps plump is a better description. This is a concern to all of us but we have no definitive explanation and as of yet no cure.

Most days she does well within the limits of her mobility, a short outing or visit with friends helps to pass the time. At other times it can be extremely aggravating if not overwhelming. As with so many challenged by continued illness, we are not ready to let go; yet we struggle with the pain of living. At such times we most put our faith in God.

We trust that each of you will have a blessed Thanksgiving with friends and family. That you will be safe in your travels and that God will be with you as we enter the season of Advent.

With Love to all, Mike

Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.
